ABOUT US

What We Are Doing

MASFA (Monitoring Agency for Space Flight Activities) was created in January 2026 by Kion and Lewis Knaggs, as a platform network to notify and inform the public about space flight activities, specifically surrounding launch operations.

Often, during activities such as the inaugural flight of new rockets, operations are delayed due to technical or weather related problems, which is normal for space flight.

But during such times, it's hard to grasp what is really happening.

During launches, this website is updated to reflect the best possible information on launch activities.

We dive deep, looking at sources, and often contacting companies, organizations and facilities involved in these launch operations to get as much information to share with the public as possible.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are launch windows?

Launch windows are periods of time during which a rocket launch could occur.

Normally when a launch is given its license, the agency or organizations responsible for launch safety publish notices to the public, especially airmen, and mariners, with specific date and time ranges during which a launch could occur.

Why do rockets Scrub?

The word "Scrub" refers to when a rocket launch operation has been aborted and postponed due to an operational, system, or weather problem.

It's normal for rockets to scrub, especially during inaugural and first test flights.

What is the “Range”?

The range is the part of the control center where personnel monitor weather conditions, such as high level windows, temperature, and other factors that could impact a rocket launch.

They are a key aspect as weather can cause a scrub if high level windows are too strong, which can exceed the rocket’s wind tolerance, and can pose risk to the launch.

What is Mission Control’s Job During a Launch?

Mission control is a center or room, where personnel from the rocket’s operator and from other participating parties such as the range etc, monitor the vehicle, system, and range status, to make sure everything goes well during a rocket launch.

Before the rocket enters its internal guidance mode, the teams have the ability to manually trigger an abort on the countdown to assess any problems during the launch countdown.

What are Road Closures?

Along with establishing a launch window for launches, authorities responsible for operating the facility and launch pad on which the rocket is launching from, publish road closures to prohibit people from entering the danger restricted area of launch, for public roads that can access the launch facility.

Public safety is one of the most important parts for a successful launch operation, so notices like Road Closures, Notice To AirMan, and Notice to Mariners play a vital role for the safety of everyone around the launch area.
